The season’s first snows arrived last week, and with that came a sense of relief to many; but for the chionophiles (snow lovers) among us, the snow-capped mountains are not just that, they are a source of great outdoor pleasure –of awe and adventure.

Although the snow level is not yet up to par so as to kick off the official on-slope ski season, for adventurers and experts, it’s the off-terrain thrill that gives the season its meaning.

On high mountain peaks, the snow level is adequate; but getting there requires great experience, fitness, and navigation skills.

Here are some photos from a recent ski-de-fond (cross country skiing) trip that started from Jonction all they way to the Mzaar peak in Lebanon’s Kfardebian. The trip was 10km long, starting from an altitude of 1800m and ending at 2450m.

Enjoy the scenery, and please remember to never attempt such trips without the presence of an expert.
